Jeff arrived in Chilliwack when he was just two years old, along with his mother, father and three older brothers (and soon to be joined by a younger sister). They lived in the same house on Mayfair Avenue for 19 years, a perfect little street in East Chilliwack.
After completing high school, he worked a few jobs around Chilliwack before deciding it was time to get an education and headed off to BCIT where he obtained a Diploma in Financial Management. He then followed that up by earning his Chartered Accountant designation while working at a mid-size accounting firm in downtown Vancouver.
Jeff returned to Chilliwack in 1993 and worked for a small accounting firm for some years before moving to the Visscher Group of Companies in 2000 where he works today as Chief Financial Officer.
It was also the move back to Chilliwack that ignited Jeff’s passion for community service. It started with helping his brother Terry with the early years of the Chilliwack Flight Fest and continued through Big Brothers, volunteer firefighter and soccer coach (see below for full list).
Jeff also found time for other activities including hockey, baseball and a little golf here and there. He also found time to meet Sherri, who he married in 1998. The family came a year later with Megan’s arrival and then McKenna in 2003. This fall, Megan will be starting her second year of a business degree at UFV and McKenna starts her first year of high school at CSS.
Jeff interests include golfing, hiking, boating, camping, and travelling. He is also an avid reader and enjoys all things history.

The prospect of having Jeff Shields on Chilliwack City council for me is very exciting. He is an ideal candidate with a commonsense approach to problem-solving and is only motivated by what is best for Chilliwack. Jeff cares deeply about his community and has always demonstrated that he is willing to put in the necessary time. Working with him on various Rotary Club projects, I have seen Jeff prove this time and time again. He has been recognized and awarded by our Club on numerous occasions for stepping up to make a difference for Chilliwack and particularly for the benefit of Chilliwack’s youth.
Municipal leadership and governance work best when decisions aren’t influenced by a particular ideology or political bent, instead, it works best based on thoughtful analysis of the available information and the lens of benefit for the community as a whole. In this regard, Jeff will make an excellent leader, decision maker and representative of the City of Chilliwack.
